Back in June of 2012 I was one month away from the manuscript due date. I asked Phillip to read the first chapter of Chronic Resilience. As most writers do, I was struggling to know if things sounded cohesive and intriguing. He agreed and spent a few hours poring over those first pages with a…yep…red pen.
When he was done he made a declaration, “I don’t want to read any more of the book until it is completely finished. I want to be the one who is excited and celebrates with you, not the one who tells you how it could be better.” He left the rest of the critiquing to my (wonderful) editorial team.
I am glad he read those first few pages because he gave me some insights that improved the book as a whole. I’m also glad he stopped reading at that point. He was right to leave the editing to the pros and just get to be excited for me along the way.
Well the day has come. We got the first bound finished copy of the book (release date August 1st) and Phillip sat down to read it on Saturday. He left the house in the afternoon for a coffee shop to cozy in with Chronic Resilience. He wouldn’t tell me where he was – he knew I’d stalk him. He decided to tweet as he read along so that I could see where he was at in the book, get his thoughts after each chapter and introduce it to his followers.
Here’s Phillip’s (@phikingstix) tweeted take on Chronic Resilience:
